The water in your hot tub is circulated by a spa pump. Attached to the pump is an electric motor, which powers the pump. The spa pump is one of the most likely components to fail in a hot tub, as they live in harsh environments, run frequently/constantly, and have to pump hot water containing chemicals (ie. chlorine).

A typical spa pump will last you 8-10 years. Malfunctioning spa pumps can be fixed, however, by the time the pump is ripped apart and the problem found, it is typically just as cheap to replace the old pump. So do yourself a favor and bit the bullet for a new spa Pump Motor if yours dies. It will save you time and headaches in the long run.

Unless your current pump was under-powered (ie. wimpy water force coming out of the jets), we recommend you replace your spa pump with the same or similar horsepower as your existing pump. In general spa motors should have 1 HP for every 4 to 6 standard size jets. Overpowering your hot tub with too much horsepower could damage your jets or plumbing, so it is important to get the right sized motor for your spa.
